ShelfRules

Product image guides

Short answer: Short guides for sellers who list on more than one marketplace. Every number in them is read from the same rule library the checker uses, with sources and a verification date, so the guides and the checker never disagree. Checked against public rules as of 2026-10-29.

  • Multi-marketplace product image size cheat sheet

Every size, shape and file limit in our rule library, side by side. Tiers differ: some numbers are hard minimums, some are recommendations, and some take effect on a future date.

  • White background (RGB 255) explained

Several marketplaces ask for a pure white main image background. Pure white means red, green and blue are all at the maximum value. Off-white or grey shadows near the edge can look white to the eye and still fail.

  • Product occupancy: how to measure it

Some marketplaces say the product should fill most of the frame. Occupancy depends on how you measure it, so here is the method our checker uses.

  • AI-generated image disclosure by platform

Marketplaces are adding rules for AI-made images, from metadata tags to plain honesty about what the item looks like. Some are measurable in the file, some are policy statements.

  • Fixing supplier images for multiple marketplaces

Supplier photos often have grey backgrounds, wrong sizes, watermarks or embedded color profiles that marketplaces reject. One export can satisfy several platforms if you use the common denominator.

  • Google Merchant Center 500px minimum from 2027

Google Merchant Center has announced a minimum image size that becomes mandatory on a set date. Until then the checker shows it as a warning so you can fix files early.
