White background (RGB 255) explained
Short answer: Pure white is RGB 255,255,255. Our checker samples a band 1% wide along the image edge and counts a pixel as white when every channel is at least 252 and it is fully opaque. The image passes when at least 90% of the edge pixels are white. The tolerance only absorbs JPEG compression noise; it is our engineering parameter, not a platform rule.
No images yet. Results appear as a platform-by-rule matrix: red for fail, yellow for warning, green for pass, grey for needs a human check.
Several marketplaces ask for a pure white main image background. Pure white means red, green and blue are all at the maximum value. Off-white or grey shadows near the edge can look white to the eye and still fail.
How the checker measures it
Transparent and semi-transparent pixels never count as white, because some platforms render transparency as black. Very large images are scaled down before this measurement, which does not change the ratio. The edge band and threshold are engineering parameters we may recalibrate; the platform rule itself only says pure white.

Amazon: Main image needs a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255)
Main imageRequiredMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Edge pixels pure white (RGB 255), at least 90% of the edge band
Why: Amazon staff state the main image must have a pure white background, RGB 255,255,255.
How to fix: Remove the background and fill it with pure white (#FFFFFF). Avoid off-white or grey shadows near the edges.

Edge pixels pure white (RGB 255), at least 90% of the edge band
Why: Walmart asks for a seamless white background, RGB 255/255/255, for main images (larger items may appear in an expected environment).
How to fix: Remove the background and fill with pure white.

Frequently asked questions
- What RGB value is pure white?
- Pure white is RGB 255,255,255, the hex color #FFFFFF.
- Why does my white-looking image fail the white background check?
- Soft shadows, off-white fills and JPEG artifacts near the edge lower the share of pure white pixels. Our check requires at least 90% of the edge band to be within 3 levels of 255.
