Fixing supplier images for multiple marketplaces
Short answer: To satisfy every size and file rule in our library with one export, use a square JPEG with a longest side of 2200 px, a pure white background (RGB 255), the product filling at least 85% of the frame, RGB color mode, and a file size under 1 MB. These values are derived from the rules below, not from a platform statement. Run the checker after exporting.
No images yet. Results appear as a platform-by-rule matrix: red for fail, yellow for warning, green for pass, grey for needs a human check.
Supplier photos often have grey backgrounds, wrong sizes, watermarks or embedded color profiles that marketplaces reject. One export can satisfy several platforms if you use the common denominator.
Steps
- Open the supplier image in your editor and remove any watermark or logo that was added to the photo.
- Cut out the product and place it on a pure white canvas without changing the product pixels.
- Scale the product so it fills the frame, then export a square JPEG in RGB at the target size and file cap.
- Run the file through the checker for all platforms and fix anything that is red.
The rules behind the export recipe
Rules last verified 2026-10-29. Checked against public rules as of 2026-10-29; this is not a guarantee of acceptance.
Amazon: Main image needs a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255)
Main imageRequiredMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Edge pixels pure white (RGB 255), at least 90% of the edge band
Why: Amazon staff state the main image must have a pure white background, RGB 255,255,255.
How to fix: Remove the background and fill it with pure white (#FFFFFF). Avoid off-white or grey shadows near the edges.

Amazon: Product should fill 85% or more of the main image frame
Main imageRequiredMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Product fills at least 85% of the frame
Why: Amazon staff state the product should fill at least 85% of the frame. We measure the longer side of the non-white bounding box.
How to fix: Crop closer to the product, or scale the product up on the canvas until it fills at least 85% of the width or height.

Walmart: Recommended size 2200 x 2200 px
All imagesRecommendationMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Shortest side at least 2200 px
Why: Walmart lists pixel dimensions of 2200px x 2200px.
How to fix: Export the square canvas at 2200 x 2200 px. Do not upscale small images to fill the frame; Walmart says this reduces quality.

Etsy: Files over 1 MB may fail to upload on slow connections
All imagesRecommendationMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
File size at most 1 MB
Why: Etsy sets no hard maximum, but warns that files over 1 MB may fail to finish uploading, especially on slow connections.
How to fix: Compress the file if uploads stall.

Walmart: RGB color format
All imagesWarningMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Color mode: RGB only
Why: Walmart lists the color format as RGB (8 bits per pixel).
How to fix: Convert CMYK or grayscale files to RGB.

Etsy: Convert to sRGB (no CMYK)
All imagesWarningMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Color mode not: CMYK

Amazon: Use JPEG or PNG
All imagesWarningMeasured automaticallyVerified 2026-10-29
Format: JPEG, PNG
Why: Two Amazon staff posts list different formats (JPEG/TIFF/PNG vs JPG/PNG/GIF/WEBP). Only JPEG and PNG appear in both.
How to fix: Convert the image to JPEG or PNG.

Frequently asked questions
- Can one image file work for every marketplace?
- For the technical rules in our library, a square RGB JPEG at the sizes and caps above satisfies all of them. Content rules such as no added text or logos still need a human check, and platform rules change.
- Why do some platforms reject CMYK images?
- Etsy forbids CMYK, and Walmart accepts RGB only. Convert supplier files to RGB before uploading anywhere.
