Etsy real photo and AI disclosure rules

Short answer: Etsy wants at least one unedited photo of the real item, edits that keep color, shape and finish accurate, and disclosure when AI helped create an item. There are 3 such rules in our library. None can be proven from pixels, so the checker shows each as a human check with a short checklist, along with Etsy's own help-page sources and the date we verified them.

Etsy asks sellers to keep an honest photo of the real item and to disclose AI use. These are policy rules, so the checker lists them as human checks.

    Human check

    • Listing has at least one unedited photo of the real item on a real background

Why: Etsy requires at least one unedited photo for most items, showing the actual item against a real background.

How to fix: Keep one unedited original photo in the listing; the others may be edited if they stay accurate.

  • AI edits must not hide damage or change the item's look

    Human check

    • Color, shape and finish match the real item
    • No damage hidden by editing

Why: Etsy allows AI-assisted editing as long as it accurately represents the item; it must not hide damage or change appearance in a misleading way.

How to fix: Revert edits that alter color, shape, finish or condition.

  • Disclose when an item is created using AI

    Human check

    • AI-created items are disclosed in the listing

Why: Etsy says sellers must still disclose when an item is created using AI, and cannot present AI-generated work as handmade or entirely their own.

How to fix: Add the AI disclosure in the listing details.
