Product image file size limits by marketplace

Short answer: Walmart allows 5 MB per image, eBay 12 MB, Google Merchant Center 16 MB and Shopify 20 MB. Etsy sets no hard maximum but warns that files over 1 MB may fail to upload on slow connections. We count a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes, the stricter reading, so a file that passes here also passes under the larger definition. The table lists the source of each limit.

File size limits differ by marketplace, and some are hard caps while others are only warnings. Here is every file size limit in our library, with its source.

Frequently asked questions

Which marketplace has the strictest image file size limit?
Of the hard caps in our library, Walmart's 5 MB per image is the smallest. Etsy warns above 1 MB but does not enforce a maximum.
How do I get an image under a file size limit?
Export as JPEG with slightly higher compression, or scale the image down, then run it through the checker. Do not go below the marketplace's minimum size.
