Amazon main image rejected or suppressed: reasons and fixes

Short answer: Amazon's Image suppression page lists the reasons a listing can be hidden because of its main image, among them text, logos, graphics or watermarks, a non-white background, additional items, props or packaging, a cropped product, a product that is too small, and a mannequin or hanger on apparel and accessories. The checker measures the white background (RGB 255) and the product share (at least 85%) and lists the other reasons as manual checks.

When a main image breaks Amazon's rules, the listing can be hidden. Amazon's Image suppression page lists the reasons. The four rules below are the ones the checker can measure or put on a checklist.

Rules

Rules last verified October 30, 2026. Checked against public rules as of October 30, 2026; this is not a guarantee of acceptance.

  • Main image needs a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255)

Main imageRequiredMeasured automaticallyVerified October 30, 2026

Edge pixels pure white (RGB 255), at least 90% of the edge band

Why: Amazon's Product image guide requires a pure white background (RGB color values: 255, 255, 255) for the main image. Its Image suppression page lists a non-white background as a reason to hide a listing.

How to fix: Remove the background and fill it with pure white (#FFFFFF). Avoid off-white or grey shadows near the edges.

  • Product should fill 85% or more of the main image frame

Main imageRequiredMeasured automaticallyVerified October 30, 2026

Product fills at least 85% of the frame

Why: Amazon's Product image guide says to show the product as 85% of the image. It does not say "or more", but its Image suppression page lists a product that is too small in the frame as a reason to hide a listing, so we treat 85% as the minimum. We measure the longer side of the non-white bounding box.

How to fix: Crop closer to the product, or scale the product up on the canvas until it fills at least 85% of the width or height.

  • No extra text, graphics or watermarks on the main image

    Manual check

    • No added text or badges
    • No overlaid graphics or icons
    • No watermark or seller logo

Why: Amazon's Image suppression page lists text, logos, graphics or watermarks on the main image as a reason to hide a listing. This needs a human look.

How to fix: Remove badges, captions, logos added on top, and watermarks. Keep text on the secondary images instead.

  • Main image shows only the product: no props, packaging, mannequin or hanger

Main imageRequiredManual checkVerified October 30, 2026

    Manual check

    • Only the items being sold are in the picture
    • No props, packaging, brand or swing tags
    • The whole product is visible, nothing cropped off
    • Apparel and accessories: no mannequin or hanger

Why: Amazon's image suppression page lists additional items, props, packaging or tags, cropped products, and (for apparel and accessories) mannequins or hangers as reasons to hide a listing. A background repair keeps whatever is in the photo, so this needs a human look.

How to fix: Reshoot or retouch so only the product being sold is visible, whole, out of its packaging, without swing tags, props, mannequin or hanger.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my Amazon main image suppressed?
Amazon's Image suppression page lists the reasons. The first things to check are a background that is not pure white (RGB 255), a product that fills too little of the frame (at least 85%), and added text, logos or watermarks. Run the file through the checker to see which of them it fails.
How do I fix a suppressed Amazon main image?
Fix the cause, then upload the corrected image. For a background or size problem the fix tool can place the product on pure white and scale it up. Text, props, packaging and cropping need a new photo or a retouch, because a background fix keeps whatever is in the photo.
Is my image uploaded when I use the checker?
No. The checker runs entirely in your browser. Your images are decoded and measured locally and are never sent to a server.

Not covered by our checker yet: anything not listed in the rules above. Always read the platform's own help page for the full policy.
